Tokyo Tourist Map: Torii Gate Burning!

The Torii, or traditional Japanese gate, is 1 of the most iconic symbols of Japan.    It's  often flora at the entrance of a Shinto Shrine whereby visitors transcend under.     Shinto is the indigenous spirituality of the acre of Japan, too hence I was intrigued when I heard at that spot was going to go a burning of the Torii Gates - the symbolic entrance betoken of 1 of the most revered objects on this isle nation.

Deep inwards the take in of Hakone, a pristine hot spa reserve, there's a  charming piffling lake tucked away from apparently persuasion that people from all over the globe locomote to for that iconic painting exhibit postcard icon of Mount Fujii with the lake, too the ruby-red hachiman(D) gate inwards the dorsum drop.     Below is a diagram of all the dissimilar styles of gates inwards Japan.

August is the start of fireworks flavor inwards this business office of Japan.    The lawsuit I attended is called the Torii Gate Burning too Lantern Floating Festival.

The procession of Shinto priests  who bore the torches to the port were clad inwards white, the symbol of purity too righteousness inwards the Shinto faith.

These torch bearers were to low-cal 2 of the 3 torii gates too so offering upwards a prayer to the gods too to bless the fireworks exhibit that volition follow.    Bottom pics are the lantern bearers.

There were 2 ways to bask the nighttime spectacle.  You could either accept the ferry too ride it out onto the lake where yous could accept inwards about pretty amazing views, or yous could seat yourself amongst the pier.    2800 yen / $35.00.    I chose the pier.   The 2800 yen went to beer too yakitori - 10 sticks!

The lanterns were scattered all over the lake too were lit up.   I stayed a few feet away from the shore too was lucky plenty to honor a fairly prissy infinite to accept pics.   I struggled getting educate too positioned properly, to go honest.  Kids were tripping over my tripod's legs too  it injure upwards  becoming a security opportunity which effected my timing too concentration a lot.

( Fear volition honor you: Dark Knight Rising musical score)

Watching  hot flames  drip downwards was hellish, yet pure inwards a sense.    Fire purifies too cleanses.   The significance for it on that nighttime was to symbolise rebirth, newness, too a spiritual rite of the elders.

Snap crackle too popular every bit the flames burned through forest too paint.   The structural integrity was however there, fifty-fifty when the winds kicked up.    This was the showtime of the nighttime show.   Suddenly out of the pitch blackness came out of nowhere it'd seemed, something alien to me,  a low-cal that close engulfed the gate.

The whole exhibit was epic too 1 I volition never forget.  Perhaps the best fireworks display I direct maintain always witnessed with my ain naked eyes.   I wasn't able to snap every bit many pics for this event inwards needed to bask it.    Below is a video I shot with my iPhone.
