Shinjuku

Shinjuku - Best Place to Travel

hello, i'm andrew marston and this is tour japan a show where i tell you about a place in japan and then we go there and today we're headed to downtown shinjuku in western tokyo. shinjuku is a large area and one of the many things it's known for is having a vibrant and unique nightlife. in this episode, we're going to explore the side-streets around shinjuku station

Shinjuku

Shinjuku, that have earned it this reputation. for starters there's the big one, kabukicho. interestingly, until the late 1800s, the kabukicho area was a swamp and duck santuary. since then, some would say a few changes have taken place

since now it's japan's premiere entertainment and red light district. aside from kabukicho and other similar, larger side-streets if you're looking for a cozier, more intimate atmosphere then i suggest checking out the smaller alleyways that come alive at night like omoideyokocho and golden gai. these areas are like narrow mazes with hundreds of the tiniest, most unique restaurants and bars you'll anywhere on the planet. they can be a bit pricey, but they always have a lot of character and are some of my favorite places to visit. so let's head there and see shinjuku at night for ourselves.

so now that you've seen it, if you have questions about shinjuku or unique stories from your trip there let me know in the comments, as well as your suggest for where we should film a future episode of tour japan. thanks for watching, i'm andrew marston. see you next time. you've been watching tour japan on the happy in japan channel. click here to watch another episode and subscribe now.
