Sugamo Tokyo

Sugamo Tokyo, please give this a name! hello everyone! i am harajuku fashion youtuber cathycat. my name is asou natsuko, call me natchan.

today we are doing a special collaboration between ask japanese and the japan in motion tv programme. this is our first time! that's right. in this video we'll introduce lots of fun things of japan to you. we have come to harajuku today. we are just right in the middle of takeshita street. what's the most famous food of harajuku!? what? crepe and such? - that's it!- but there are so many more now. there is also cotton candy now and many other new sweets.

that's why we wiii pig out until we become chunky! we will go home fat! let's go! there we are. we have come to the strawberry house! we visited the cafe crepe strawberry house near la foret harajuku. i picked one of their most popular items the strawberry chocolate cookie crepe natchan ordered the crepe she enjoyed in her school days. chocolate banana cream. oh it's ready!

here you go.- thank you. that's yours.- thank you. wow this is exciting.- it's been a while since i had this. i just remembered the feeling i had in primary school when eating this. i feel 12 years old now. let's eat this! this tastes so soft and fluffy. okay. i heard that here you can ask them to put everything in a crepe. everything?- e v e r y t h i n g

with so many possible toppings for crepe what would happen if we put all sweet toppings into one massive crepe? let's do this! there is comes! please hold this with both hands, it's heavy. it really is super heavy. this is probably the weight of a newborn baby. really?- seriously, hold it! it has at least 3 kilos.

whoaa!- heavy, right?! that's the weight of a baby! - shall we eat this?- shall we dig in? ready go! staff: cathy your face!cathy: what? what's going on? well done cathy! no!!! wow this crepe is huge!

guess how many toppings there are? banana, kiwi, strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, peach, melon, whipped cream, custard cream, frozen yoghurt, cheesecake, creme brulee, tiramisu, oreo cookies, vanilla ice cream, chocolate ice cream, green tea ice cream, chocolate sauce, strawberry sauce, caramel sauce, green tea powder, and more than 20 toppings are in this massive crepe.t they first had to make three large crepes, and then rolled them into one massive bouquet crepe. does it taste alright?

it tastes super rich. you can enjoy it from different angles. it's a real luxorious treat for people who love sweets. so now.... since we got everything in one big crepe... i think it will be around 3000 yen (around 30 dollars( if you say it was 3000 i say it will be 4000 (around 40 dollars) are you sure.- yes that's my bid. how much is this crepe?

4130 yen i have no clue wether that means its cheap or expensive. this is a good chance to call all your friends and have a huge crepe together. just be careful not to get it all over you.- that's true. also let's not get it all over your nose. since we are ask japanese, let's take a quick break before our next stop and ask what sweets japanese people like to eat. do you have a favourite japanese type sweet? i like pongashi.

what is pongashi? you add rice to the pongashi machine... you let is explode and it's done. it's super tasty. we mix it with sugar. tasty. the base of it is japanese rice?- exactly. just normal rice right?- yes. where did you buy or eat that one recently? i had it at a festival in my hometown.

i like onimanjyu (demon ricecake). demon?- demon ricecake. what type of ricecake is that? sweet potatoes are cut into little bits. and then wrap them in ricecake. and that's a demon? that's a demon ricecake. devilish ricecakes? what's good about them?

they have them in local supermarkets i eat them there all the time. kibidango are tasty! (sweet dumplings) what type of sweet are they? do you know okayama? they're a speciality of that prefecture. i heard those sweets appear in a story. it's from the momotaro fairy tale of okayama. he goes out to slay deamons. that's what made kibidango famous. in the story what happens when you eat them?

in the story they are used by momotaro to make friends. he makes friends with a monkey and pheasant and such... if you eat them you get new friends? that's probably what they tried to tell us through the story. i am from outside of tokyo, from kyoto. we like matcha sweets, matcha cookies and other things made of green tea. people from abroad like it too. those were all our questions, thank you. now back to cathy and natchan.

we heard there is a new and incredibly popular place in harajuku that opened this year. it's the roll ice cream factory. there is always a huge line and as you can see, even in the rain. so what's so special about this place then? here we are. we have come to the ice cream place. wow this cue is huge. how long did you stand in line for this?

one hour and a half. what that long? what's the main reason? eating the food or taking pictures of it? pictures. hello. sorry you look so busy. are there people from other countries coming here too? yes many. they see pictures on sns and then decide to come here.

since we are in harajuku today... let's get her to make a vivid one. a colorful ice cream that you could only get in harajuku i got it. you can do it? nice. here we are.- wait, that's not ice cream. that's right. we don't have ice here. we first only use liquids. we add them on this plate which is about -14 degreen cold. we add it on the plate, and let it freeze right there.

wow that sounds fun. please make out ice cream then.- i will. i can see corn flakes! i will ad cornflakes to give the ice cream some crunch. i have never seen liquid ice cream. this looks fun. it already has started freezing! the result must be so colourful! i will start rolling it now.- rolling?

wow! that's such a thin layer. ice creamin that shape... i haven't seen that before. kind of original. finished. thank you so much! please give this unique ice cream a name! cathy's and natchan's harajuku date style. it's almost too cute to eat.

before eating it i wanna take lots of pictures. i can see now why everyone does that. ready go.... 3 2 1 wow. this is fun. wow we are in tune! let's try it! there are so many food textures in this.

candy, cornflakes, whipped cream, ice cream.... i have never eaten something that's so much fun! it's like a party in my mouth. i can taste many types of sweetness. there is the sweetness i enjoyed as child. and then the tastes i started liking as adult. all of that mixed into one. it's so tasty. it's important that the product they sell is cute but...

have a look at the cute decoration of this store.- pon pons! having cute curtains and mirrors in the place... creates an important background for those who take pictures here. great for instagram. also the lights here. they are placed so you look good. that one over there is great. it's like beauty light. we must look a bit more pretty in these shots right now. what do you think? sparkle sparkle

we look pretty. we have had so much food! we pigged out! we probably got fat. good possibiltity of that. first we had that massive crepe today... and then had a look at this new type of ice cream store... we compared the old-school harajuk sweets and the new harajuku sweets. cathy how was it. it was good.

it was sexy.... that was the wrong japanese. there was so much color. i like that you can order things different to other people. good point. i think that's a part of the harajuku culture. freedom of style. freedom of style. flashy. unique. i felt nostalgic and i learned new things about harajuku too.

please come and hang out with me in harajuku again. sure, thank you. thank you and thanks for the feast.
